Statement from Governors

Meonstoke CofE School Governing Body is a diverse group of people, all volunteers, with a common interest in the school, its staff, pupils and buildings and the community of which it forms a part. Each Governor brings different strengths and skills to the Governing Board, but all have a commitment to helping the school.

The Headteacher acts as a professional advisor to the governing body. The governors delegate the day to day responsibility for the management of the school to the Headteacher.

The governors focus strongly on three core functions:

1.    Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

2.    Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff, and

3.    Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Governance Arrangements

The Governing Body of Meonstoke CofE School was re-constituted in May 2015, and is now made up of 2 Staff Governors (including the Headteacher), 3 Parent Governors, 5 Co-opted Governors and two Foundation Governors.

The full Governing Body meets twice a term as well as many periodic visits to the school in order to monitor performance and see the teaching, learning (and fun) in action.

We also ensure regular contact with parents, actively seeking feedback on their views of the school.

We also have committees who meet when required to consider staff appointments, performance management, appeals and exclusions.

Work done by the Governing Body

Governors have  discussed key data giving the results of pupil achievement and progress, so that we can be sure that the school is on track to fulfil its ambitious targets for all pupils. We also consider the outcomes of “vulnerable groups” of children and focus on how the Pupil Premium Grant is being spent by the school and what impact this has on achievement and progress.

Our full governing body training focused on Strategic planning this year in order to better understand the long-term plans for the school and implications from recent government intervention.

Early in the Summer Term we approved the  Budget Plan for the school.

Governors also review and agree key school policies. We also annually review the school Attendance Policy to ensure it is in line with government legislation; we are pleased that attendance figures remain at the high end of similar schools.

The minutes of Governing Body meetings are public documents and you can ask at the school office if you would like to see any of the minutes of our meetings.

Future plans for the Governors

We  continue to actively monitor the spending plans for the school as rapid government change has seen dramatic rising costs and lower financial support for smaller schools. We will be considering ways to fund raise.

Contact the Governing Body

We always welcome suggestions, feedback, queries and ideas from parents or prospective parents – please contact the Chair of Governors – via the School Office.
