    Statement from the Governors

    The Meonstoke C of E Infant School governing body is a diverse group of people, all volunteers, with a common interest in the school, its staff, pupils and the community. Each Governor brings different strengths and skills to the Governing Board, but all have a commitment to helping the school. The Headteacher acts as a professional advisor to the governing body. The governors delegate the day to day responsibility for the management of the school to the Headteacher.

    The governors focus strongly on three core functions:

    1.    Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

    2.    Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the         performance management of staff;

    3.    Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

    Governance Arrangements

    The full Governing Body meets twice a term as well as many periodic monitoring visits to the school in order to observe performance, ensure safeguarding is of upmost importance and see the teaching, learning (and fun) in action. We have committees who meet when required to consider staff appointments, performance management, finance, appeals and exclusions. We also ensure regular contact with parents, actively seeking feedback on their views of the school.

    Work done by the Governing Body

    So that we can be sure that the school is on track to fulfill its ambitious targets for all pupils, Governors discuss key data which give results of pupil achievement and progress. We also consider the outcomes of “vulnerable groups” of children and focus on how the Pupil Premium, Sport Funding and any other grant is being spent by the school and what impact this has on achievement and progress. Our full governing body training this year  will focus on Governor Monitoring and will be taking place virtually in July.

    Early in the Summer Term we approve the Budget Plan for the school and approve the revised budget every November. Governors also review and agree key school policies. We also annually review the school Attendance Policy to ensure it is in line with government legislation; we are pleased that attendance figures remain at the high end of similar schools. The minutes of Governing Body meetings are public documents and you can ask at the school office if you would like to see any of the minutes of our meetings.

    Future plans for the Governors

    We actively monitor the school in conjunction with the School Development Plan so that we can continually adapt and develop the quality of teaching and education.

    Contact the Governing Body

    We always welcome suggestions, feedback, queries and ideas from parents or prospective parents – please contact the Chair of Governors – via the School Office.
